Colombia is located on the northern tip of the South America with coastlines along the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. In addition to beaches, the landscape is marked by coffee plantations, rainforests and the Andes Mountains. The country is bordered by 5 countries Brazil, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. It is multi-ethnic and diverse, with 85 indigenous tribes, 60 native languages and a black population of about 10%.
The country has a turbulent history, colonization by Spaniards and wars. Most recently was in the news because of the current goverment's attempt to resolve the conflict between the Goverment of Colombia and the rebel guerilla group called FARC-EP (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People's Army (Spanish: Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia—Ejército del Pueblo). In October of this year, Colombian President Santos was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his resolute efforts to bring the country's more than 50-year-long war with FARC to an end.
